Black Friday deals UK: what to buy and what to watch out for

Black Friday lands on Friday 27 November this year, and the build-up has already started. If you're planning to grab some Black Friday deals in the UK, a little prep now is the difference between a genuine saving and an impulse buy you could have got cheaper in January.

This guide covers the deals worth waiting for, the tricks that make a price look better than it is, and how to earn cashback on top of the discount with tuck. cashback cards. Think of it as your Black Friday game plan.

When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?

Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November, the day after US Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday follows on Monday 30 November.

In reality, it stopped being a single day a while ago. Last year several big names, including Currys, Boots and AO, launched their offers in late October, and plenty of sales ran well into December.

Key Black Friday dates to know

When

What usually happens

Late October to early November

Early Black Friday offers start, mostly at electrical, beauty and DIY retailers

Mid November

Most fashion, homeware and supermarket sales go live

Friday 27 November

Black Friday itself, usually the biggest day for discounts

Monday 30 November

Cyber Monday, often the last big push for online deals

Early December

Some sales are extended or roll into Christmas offers

Black Friday or Cyber Monday: which is better?

There's no fixed rule. Some retailers save their biggest discounts for the Friday and quietly scale them back by Monday, while others add extra online-only codes for Cyber Monday.

If something on your list is already at a price you're happy with, don't gamble on it dropping further over the weekend. Popular sizes and models do sell out.

How to prep for Black Friday, including your cashback cards

The people who save the most on Black Friday usually did the groundwork weeks before. Here's what to sort now.

Write a list and set a budget

Decide what you actually need, and what you're happy to spend on each item, before the sale emails start landing. Christmas presents you were buying anyway, a laptop on its last legs, a winter coat: that's where Black Friday works in your favour.

Anything that isn't on the list is a nice-to-have. That's exactly where overspending creeps in.

Track prices now so you can spot a real discount

The best Black Friday tip of all is knowing what something normally costs. Price comparison sites such as PriceSpy and PriceRunner show a product's price history, so you can see whether a deal is genuinely low or just back to a price it's hit before.

Adding items to a wish list or basket is another easy way to keep an eye on them, and some retailers will email you when the price drops.

Sign up to loyalty schemes and newsletters early

Some retailers give members early access or extra discounts, and you usually need to join before the sale starts to benefit. Tesco Clubcard and Boots Advantage Card members, for example, often get member-only prices. It takes two minutes, and you can unsubscribe in January.

Get your tuck. cashback cards ready

With tuck., you earn cashback the moment you buy a cashback card for a retailer, then spend the balance at checkout like any other card. Once you know where you're shopping, open the app, check the cashback rate for that retailer and buy a card for roughly what you plan to spend. The cashback lands straight away, before you've even started shopping.

Cashback cards are bought at full face value and can't be topped up, but any balance you don't use stays on the card for your next shop with that retailer. So buy a card for the amount you're confident you'll spend, rather than guessing high.

The best Black Friday deals to look out for, by category

Not everything is worth waiting for. These are the categories where Black Friday discounts tend to be strongest, and where cashback adds up quickest because the price tags are bigger.

TVs, laptops, tech and gaming

This is where Black Friday earns its reputation. TVs, laptops, tablets, headphones and smartwatches all tend to see proper reductions, often on last year's models as retailers make room for new stock. Last year's model is usually the sweet spot: nearly all the features for a lot less money.

Look out for price matching too, as several electrical retailers will match a competitor's price if you ask. Buy a Currys or Apple cashback card first and you're saving on both the deal and the cashback. Our article on ‘how to save money on tech and gadgets’ has more information on getting cashback on tech all year round.

Gamers are covered too. Nintendo and PlayStation cashback cards are a simple way to earn on games and add-ons, and they make an easy present for anyone who already has a console.

Kitchen, home and furniture

Air fryers, coffee machines, stand mixers and cordless vacuums turn up in almost every Black Friday sale. They're also the kind of products that are often just as cheap at other points in the year, so check the price history before you commit. If it's at or near its lowest price in months, that's your cue.

Black Friday is also a good moment for bigger home buys like sofas, beds and dining sets. Wayfair usually runs a big sale, and buying a Wayfair cashback card first means you earn on a purchase that can easily run into hundreds of pounds.

Beauty gift sets and advent calendars

Beauty is one of the easiest ways to get Christmas presents sorted early. Fragrance gift sets, skincare bundles and beauty advent calendars are regularly discounted, and the popular ones go fast.

Lush and Rituals gift sets are Christmas favourites, The Body Shop is great for stocking fillers, and Sephora is worth a look for make-up and fragrance. You can earn cashback at all four with tuck. - Lush, Rituals, The Body Shop and Sephora.

On tuck, Boots cashback cards are for shopping online with Boots, not in store, so plan to place your order on the Boots website.

Fashion, coats and trainers

Fashion retailers love a site-wide code, and Black Friday is when you'll see the biggest percentages. It's a good time to buy winter coats, boots and trainers you'll wear straight away.

Head to Footasylum for trainers, Mango for winter coats and knitwear, and Debenhams or Asos for a bit of everything. If you've been eyeing something designer, Selfridges is one to watch. Browse our Fashion category page for every retailer where you can earn cashback.

DIY, homeware and Christmas decorations

Got a project planned for the new year? Black Friday is a great time to pick up power tools, garden kit and Christmas lights. B&Q has everything from cordless drills to outdoor lights in one place, so you can tick off the whole list in one go. Buy a B&Q cashback card before you check out and you’ll earn cashback on the entire project, on top of any Black Friday savings.

For cosy homeware, cushions, throws and Christmas decorations, Dunelm and B&M are both brilliant for keeping costs down. John Lewis is the one to watch if you're after quality decorations or a new piece for the home that'll last.

Your Christmas food shop

It's not the most exciting Black Friday buy, but the big Christmas shop is one of the largest bills of the year. Buying a Tesco cashback card ahead of it means you earn cashback on spending you were going to do anyway.

Tesco cashback cards work in store only, not online or at Tesco petrol stations. The barcode needs to be scanned at the product scanner, the same way you'd scan a Clubcard, rather than on the card machine.

Planning a M&S Christmas food order, stocking the freezer at Iceland or doing the big shop at Asda? You can earn cashback there too, so pick the supermarket that suits your list.

What to watch out for on Black Friday

Not every Black Friday deal is what it seems. These are the traps worth knowing about before you hit buy.

Inflated 'was' prices

A big percentage off means nothing if the original price was never really charged. When Which? tracked 175 home, tech and health appliances from eight major retailers, it found 83% were the same price or cheaper at least once outside the Black Friday sales period.

Compare the deal price with what the product has actually sold for over the past few months, not the RRP.

Deals that get cheaper later

Some products drop further after Black Friday, especially in the Boxing Day and January sales. If you don't need something before Christmas, there's no harm in waiting. For gifts, though, buying early usually means less stress and better stock.

Fake websites, scam texts and too-good-to-be-true offers

Scammers know we're all hunting for bargains in November. Be wary of links in unexpected texts, emails or social media ads, and type the retailer's web address in yourself instead. If a brand-new console is going for half price on a site you've never heard of, walk away.

It's also worth checking who's actually selling and shipping the item. On big marketplace sites, a deal might come from a third-party seller with a different returns policy.

Countdown timers and 'only 2 left' warnings

Ticking clocks and low-stock alerts are designed to rush you. If it's on your list and the price is right, go for it. If you're only buying because a timer told you to, close the tab.

Delivery dates and returns

If you're buying presents, check the delivery estimate and the returns policy before you pay. Many retailers extend their returns window over Christmas, but it's not guaranteed, so it's worth a quick look.

When you shop online, you generally have 14 days to cancel most orders once they arrive under UK consumer rules. Personalised items and some other products are exceptions.

Buy now, pay later

Spreading the cost can feel painless in November and very real in January. Buy now, pay later is still borrowing, so only use it for things you'd have bought anyway and can comfortably repay.

Stacking cashback with Black Friday deals

This is where Black Friday gets genuinely good. Because tuck. pays your cashback when you buy the cashback card, it doesn't matter how low the price is at checkout. The retailer's Black Friday discount and your tuck. cashback simply sit on top of each other.

A quick example

Say you've had your eye on a TV that's usually £500 and drops to £400 on Black Friday. You buy a £400 cashback card for that retailer in the tuck. app and the cashback lands straight away.

If that retailer's rate were 5% (rates vary, so always check the app), that's £20 back on top of the £100 Black Friday saving. Then you pay for the TV with your cashback card balance as normal.

Add loyalty points on top

You can often add a third layer with the retailer's own loyalty scheme. Scan your Clubcard or Boots Advantage Card as usual, pay with your tuck. cashback card, and you're earning on both. Retailers set their own rules on combining offers, so check the terms if you're unsure.

Make the most of your balance

Since cashback cards can't be topped up, buy them in amounts that match your list. Any leftover balance stays on the card, so a few pounds left over after Black Friday can go towards your next shop with that retailer.

It's transparent rewards with no monthly fees, and you can see the cashback rate before you buy. Download the tuck. app to set up your cashback cards before the sales begin, and for more seasonal ideas, have a read of our Black Friday cashback guide and other articles located on our tuck. site!

Black Friday FAQs

When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?

Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. Many UK retailers start their Black Friday sales weeks earlier, some from late October, and plenty run into early December.

Are Black Friday deals actually worth it?

Some are, but many are not as special as they look. Which? found that 83% of the Black Friday products it tracked were the same price or cheaper at least once at another time of year. Checking a product's price history before you buy is the best way to spot a genuine deal.

How can I tell if a Black Friday deal is real?

Look up the product's price history on a comparison site such as PriceSpy or PriceRunner, and compare the deal with what it has actually sold for recently rather than the RRP. Check the same item at a few retailers, and be cautious of unfamiliar websites offering prices that seem too good to be true.

How can I save the most money on Black Friday?

Make a list and set a budget before the sales start, track prices so you recognise a real discount, and stick to things you were going to buy anyway. Buying a tuck. cashback card for the retailer before you check out adds cashback on top of the Black Friday price.

Do cashback cards work on Black Friday deals?

Yes. tuck. pays your cashback when you buy the cashback card, so it works the same whether the item is full price or reduced for Black Friday. You spend the card balance at checkout as normal, and the discount and the cashback stack together.
